Extensive studies have been carried out on RTS SmaRTStore™ to ensure that the samples remain safe within tightly controlled environmental conditions and can be retrieved without error whilst still maintaining high density storage. This poster describes some key features which have been investigated. SmaRTStore™ features a closed loop nitrogen purge system to allow oxygen levels within the system to be accurately controlled. Extensive trials were executed to develop and optimize the purging algorithms and improve the nitrogen efficiency of the system. Most store cooling systems are designed to operate at a fixed temperature set point. In contrast, SmaRTStore™ has been specially designed to allow the operating temperature to be adjusted between ambient and -20°C. This flexibility allows users to reconfigure the system should changes to storage conditions prove necessary. Another benefit of SmaRTStore™ is the store tray design, which design allows high capacity storage within a modest footprint area.
