SBS Awards

SBS Awards Programs - Overview

The SBS Achievement Award

The Society for Biomolecular Sciences supports an award of $5,000 made at least every three years, to recognize outstanding achievements in research, innovation, ground breaking foundation, or seminal contributions that have proven to be broadly applicable to biomolecular screening or pharmaceutical/ agricultural lead discovery. Furthermore, the award seeks to recognize those who have distinguished themselves within the scope of the society's mission. Independence of thought, originality of approach, clarity of vision, and a consistent record of achievement are important criteria. Quality and depth rather than the number of contributions shall be emphasized.

The SBS Accomplishment Award

The Society for Biomolecular Sciences supports annual awards of $1,000 to recognize a member for a significant technical accomplishment, exceeding a benchmark or milestone in screening or the lead discovery process, or an innovative and integrated use of mature technologies. More than one award may be conferred annually.

New! SBS Technology Innovation Award

The Award of $2,500 will be given for an outstanding novel technology or use that is predicted to have a significant impact on the field of biomolecular sciences. The novel technology or use may be unproven in the field but has the potential to make a huge impact in the drug discovery process.

The following award has been replaced by the new SBS Technology Innovation Award above
The SBS PolyPops Foundation Award for the
Best Innovation in Microplate Design or Application

SBS and PolyPops Development Foundation supported an annual award of $2,500 to recognize a member for the best innovation in microplate design or application.

JBS Academic Excellence Award

In partnership with SBS’ Academic Outreach and Awards Committees and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Biomolecular Screening (JBS), the first JBS Academic Excellence Award will be presented to graduate students* whose academic work contributes to biomolecular sciences/quantitative biology. Authors are invited to submit abstracts (up to 500 words) to Lori Bray (lbray@sbsonline.org) by February 4, 2010 for consideration.

Three award finalists will be invited to present in a special session at the forthcoming SBS 16th Annual Conference & Exhibition in Phoenix, Arizona, April 11-15, 2010. Each presenter will have 15 minutes to present their work, followed by five minutes of question-and-answer by a panel of SBS member judges. The award will be based upon scientific merit, experimental approach/innovation, presentation, and grasp of the subject matter. The top three finalists will receive free registration to attend the Annual Conference & Exhibition, and the winner will receive an award of $1500 for best presentation. The award will be presented prior to the close of the conference.

*Graduate students must be actively enrolled in an accredited graduate program as of February 4, 2010.
